TOURISM MANAGEMENT MASTER’S PROGRAM WITH THESIS (TURKISH)
1. Explain the concrete justification for opening the program.
The Tourism Management Master's Program with Thesis at Alanya University is structured for graduates who aim for an academic or sectoral career after their undergraduate education, and for researchers who want to produce scientific knowledge in the field of tourism. The main justification for opening this program is to train the qualified, creative human resources with developed research skills and interdisciplinary thinking capabilities that the tourism sector needs, and at the same time to increase academic productivity in cooperation with the sector. Today, the tourism sector has strategic importance in terms of economic development, employment, and social welfare. Therefore, in order to ensure sustainable growth in the sector, educated, well-equipped, and innovative individuals need to be trained. In this direction, our program aims to meet sectoral education and research needs, support scientific knowledge production, and directly contribute to the development of the sector.
Our program focuses on training individuals who are equipped with interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of tourism, think creatively, and can develop scientific approaches to problems. It is aimed that the qualified tourism workforce will increase efficiency in the sector, providing a competitive advantage at both local and global levels, while simultaneously raising employment and welfare levels through an educated human resource.
Our thesis program adopts as a primary goal the production of research that will contribute to the sector by analyzing the needs of the tourism industry at an academic level; preserving cultural sustainability, and providing scientific outputs that will integrate technological innovations into the sector. Transferring the knowledge, experience, and values accumulated throughout history to the future, and training conscious tourism professionals and academicians who guide society within this framework, is our main priority. Scientific research activities not only increase academic knowledge but also allow for the development of new practices and policies, thereby contributing to the progress of societies and the improvement of the quality of life. Qualified research to be conducted specifically in the field of tourism supports the development of innovative and sustainable ideas in the sector, encourages social development, and contributes to the diversification of practices aimed at environmental sustainability. In this context, as Alanya University, through our Tourism Management Master's Program with Thesis, we aim not only to bring a qualified workforce to the sector but also to train experts with academic depth, high research competence, and the academicians of the future.
Our program aims to encourage our students and academicians to take active roles in international scientific circles. It aims to expand the sharing of knowledge and experience through international research networks by increasing inter-university academic and cultural collaborations, thereby supporting the development of research capable of competing on a global scale and accelerating sectoral innovation. Through interactions established with researchers and students coming from and going to different countries, it plans to encourage the enrichment of cultural diversity in the tourism sector and the emergence of creative projects. In this direction, strengthening industry-university collaboration to increase the qualified workforce and expand innovative service models is also positioned among its primary goals. Furthermore, it aims to structure the education and training process, carried out within the framework of the principle of scientific and academic freedom, in a way that contributes to the development of our students' and academicians' independent, creative, and critical thinking skills. Thus, the Tourism Management Master's Program with Thesis views contributing to the development of both the local and national tourism economy and supporting sustainable economic growth in the sector among its core objectives.
Finally, the support of the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem by universities makes significant contributions to the development of creative thinking and innovative business ideas in the tourism sector. It is also among the important expectations of our program that our graduates increase employment in the sector, create new business areas, and serve sustainable development with the projects and initiatives they develop. As Alanya University, we view paving the way for innovative ideas for the tourism sector, encouraging entrepreneurship, and contributing to sectoral transformation as one of our main motivations.

9. If the proposed program is interdisciplinary in nature;
How this program differs from other master's programs currently being conducted at the University:
There is no master's program currently conducted in the field of tourism management at our university. The Tourism Management Master's Program with Thesis has the distinction of being the first and unique graduate education program in this field at our university. The program distinguishes itself from existing business programs by focusing on distinct areas such as sustainable tourism, destination management, tourism marketing, and service quality, in line with the dynamics of the tourism sector.
How it will be conducted without weakening existing master's programs:
The Tourism Management Master's Program with Thesis covers topics specific to the tourism sector, such as sustainable tourism, destination planning, crisis management in tourism, and service sector management. This program is designed especially for professionals who want to build a career in the tourism sector and students who aim to advance in the academic field. Differentiating itself from existing business programs, it provides specialization specific to the needs of the tourism sector. Thus, it will increase academic diversity and areas of expertise without weakening the quality of other master's programs conducted at our university.
Whether it requires new physical space (classrooms, laboratories, etc.) in addition to existing facilities:
There is no need for additional new physical space to conduct the program. Our university's existing classrooms, seminar halls, library, and technology infrastructure are sufficient to meet all the educational and research activities of the program.
The additional financial burden it will bring to the university and how it will be met:
Opening the Tourism Management Master's Program with Thesis will not bring an additional financial burden to our university. The program will be supported by the current academic staff and conducted using existing resources. Therefore, there will be no need for additional personnel or infrastructure investment.
Whether a Scientific Preparation Program will be applied if students starting the program come from different disciplines:
For students applying to the program from different undergraduate programs, a Scientific Preparation Program may be applied if deemed necessary. This arrangement will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 10 of the Alanya University Graduate Education and Examination Regulation. Within the scope of the Scientific Preparation Program, students will be given fundamental courses in the field of tourism management, thereby preserving the integrity of the program.
